Around the World in Eighty Days is the most popular novel by French writer Jules Verne, which had its premiere in 1873. It is part of the novel series Voyages Extraordinaires. The plot begins in nineteenth-century London. Philaes Fogg, a mysterious English gentleman leads a monotonous, lonely and orderly life, until he bet his friends that he will travel the world in eighty days. Along with the princess Aouda and his servant Passepartout, they participate in a crazy, adventurous trip around the world. The hero of the book traverses the lands and oceans not just to win the bet, but also to defend his honour; he was in fact suspected that upon leaving London he robbed a bank. On their way, the friends encounter a lot of adversity. Can they win the bet and save the main character?
